Acupuncture
Many western doctors and physiotherapists
now use acupuncture for pain management
Acupuncture is a therapy of inserting very fine sterilised needles into specific acupoints of the body. Every needle comes vacuum packed and they are never re-used. The aim is to regulate the meridian or energy channels of the body in order to re-open the blockage of qi, also known as “vital force”, “energy flow” or “life force.” This blockage, or imbalance, within the meridian can cause a variety of physical, mental and emotional illnesses resulting in the most common symptoms of tiredness, tension or pain.
Acupuncture is the most mainstream of the complementary therapies and is extremely popular. Many traditional western doctors are trained in acupuncture and understand its benefits. Even psychiatrists and psychologists are beginning to understand meridian therapies and how they can help with emotional and mind related problems.
Acupressure
Acupressure or medical massage (called “Tui Na” in China) uses various movements and degrees of pressure using the fingers and palms of the hand at energetic acupoints on the surface of the body to stimulate qi mobilisation in order to regain Yin-Yang balance in the body. It is particularly effective in healing conditions such as stress, anxiety, panic attack, back, neck and joint pain, headaches and sports injuries.
